Privacy notice
Updated 20 October 2026
This notice explains what personal data The Hottest Table collects when you visit hottesttable.com, sign up for the newsletter or email us, why we use it, who receives it and what your rights are.
Who we are
The controller of your personal data is the independent publisher based in India who publishes The Hottest Table. You can contact us at hello@hottesttable.com, and we will give our legal name and postal address to anyone who asks.
What we collect, why, and our lawful basis
You don't have to sign up or give us any details to read the site. We need your email address only if you want the newsletter.
When you visit the site. Our host, Cloudflare, processes your IP address, browser and device details and the pages you request, so that it can deliver the site and protect it from attacks and abuse. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interests in running a working, secure website.
Site statistics. We don't collect site statistics at the moment. If we start, we will describe what we collect here first, and give you a free way to switch it off.
The newsletter. The sign-up form on our pages is provided by our newsletter platform, beehiiv, and loads from beehiiv's servers, so beehiiv receives your IP address and browser details when a page with the form loads, even if you don't sign up. When you sign up, beehiiv collects:
- your email address and the edition (city) you choose
- when you signed up, and the page you signed up on
- your IP address, and the approximate location and device type it suggests
We use double opt-in: you are subscribed only after you click the link in our confirmation email, which also gives us a record of your consent.
Each issue contains a small tracking pixel, and its links pass through a tracking address. This lets beehiiv record whether and when you opened an issue, which links you clicked, and your approximate location at the time. We use this to see which parts readers find useful.
We use your details to send you the weekly newsletter, which can include advertising, together with occasional updates about the guide and occasional sponsored emails on behalf of partners. Our lawful basis for sending these emails and for the tracking is your consent, given when you sign up. You can withdraw it at any time with the unsubscribe link in every email. Turning off automatic image loading in your email app usually stops opens being recorded.
When you email us. We receive your email address and anything you include in your message, and use them to reply. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interests in answering you.
Advertising. Advertising is not switched on yet. The next section explains how it will work when it is.
We don't make decisions about you based solely on automated processing.
Advertising
At the time of writing, advertising is not switched on, and this section describes how it will work. We will update this notice when ads start.
We plan to show ads served by Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet. Google and other third parties may place and read cookies in your browser, or use web beacons or IP addresses, to collect information as a result of ad serving. You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google's Ads Settings, and read how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Before any ads are shown to visitors in the UK, the European Economic Area or Switzerland, we will ask for their choice through a consent message from a Google-certified consent management platform. Ad cookies that need consent will only be used if you agree, and you will be able to change your choice at any time.
Cookies
The Hottest Table does not set any cookies of its own at present.
- The newsletter sign-up form. The form is embedded from beehiiv's site, which may use its own cookies or similar technologies, as described in beehiiv's privacy policy.
- Cloudflare. If Cloudflare's bot protection is switched on for the site, Cloudflare sets a cookie called
__cf_bmto help tell people apart from automated traffic. It expires after 30 minutes of inactivity. If you are shown a Cloudflare security check and pass it, Cloudflare sets a cookie calledcf_clearanceto remember that. Cloudflare classes both as strictly necessary. - Advertising. When advertising starts, the consent message and, if you agree, Google and its partners will set cookies as described above.
Who receives your data
- Cloudflare: hosting, security, and forwarding of emails sent to us.
- beehiiv: the sign-up form, sending the newsletter and storing subscriber details.
- Google: our email inbox, and advertising once it is switched on.
- Advertising partners: once advertising is switched on, the partners listed in the consent message, if you agree.

International transfers
We are based in India. beehiiv stores subscriber data in the United States, and Cloudflare and Google process data in the United States and other countries. beehiiv's data processing agreement includes the EU standard contractual clauses and the UK Addendum. Cloudflare's relies on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, with standard contractual clauses as a fallback. Google describes its safeguards in its own privacy terms. Email us if you would like a copy of the safeguards that apply to your data.
How long we keep it
- Newsletter: while you are subscribed. If you unsubscribe, we keep your email address on a list of addresses not to contact, so that you don't receive emails by mistake. Our lawful basis for keeping that list is our legitimate interests in respecting your choice.
- Emails to us: up to 12 months after the conversation ends, unless we need them for longer to deal with a complaint or a legal claim.
- Cloudflare, beehiiv and Google keep data as described in their own policies.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you can ask us to give you a copy of your personal data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, or send it to you in a portable format, and you can withdraw your consent at any time. Withdrawing consent doesn't affect anything we did with your data before you withdrew it.
To make a request, email hello@hottesttable.com. We reply within one month of receiving your request, or of receiving anything we need to confirm your identity. If a request is complex, or you send us several, we may extend this by up to two further months; if so, we will tell you why within the first month.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal data, you can complain to us by email at hello@hottesttable.com, with "Privacy complaint" in the subject line. We acknowledge complaints within 30 days and tell you the outcome without undue delay.
You can also complain to a data protection authority. In the UK, that is the Information Commission (still known as the ICO) at ico.org.uk. In the European Economic Area, it is the authority in the country where you live or work, or where you think the problem happened.
Children
The site is not directed at children, and the newsletter is for readers aged 18 and over. If we learn that a child has signed up, we will delete their details.
Changes to this notice
We will update this notice when our practices change, and change the date at the top.
